leyedas quartet (quartet of legends!)

If you're a fan of Selena, Ritchie Valens, Celia Cruz or Hector Lavoe - then this is a tee to add to your summer wardrobe! 
 
This design is significant to us not only because it's been in hiding for over 4 years now, pero por que crecímos escuchando los at the family parties and BBQ's, and even temprano en las mañanitas when our parents/grandparents would wake us up (indicating que era hora de limpiar!) to the voices of these  incredibly iconic musicians! 
 
Selena (April 16, 1971 - March 31, 1995) and
Ritchie Valens (May 13, 1941 - February 3, 1959) are both Mexican-American legands who sadly, have incredibly short lives. They paved the way for new sounds that sky-rocketed to making them wordwide sensations and most importantly, they opened the way for the sounds of their culture and people, to take up space in the music industry!
Their influence in the world of Tejano and Rock 'n' Roll (respectively) music wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for their contributions!
 
Celia Cruz and Hector Lavoe both lived longer lives than the former; though still, their time was cut short. They passed away due to illnesses. Nevertheless, their impact on the world of Salsa and Mambo music does not miss a beat.
 
Celia Cruz (October 21, 1925 - July 16, 2003) rose to fame in Cuba during the 1950s as a singer of guarachas, earning the nickname "La Guarachera de Cuba. Although it went against her father's wishes and Catholic upbrigning, Celia often sang songs of Santería and Yoruba, staying true at a young age, to her Afro-Cuban ancestry. She never got to return to her deloved Cuba after leaving in 1960, but found a home in community through Salsa music.

Hector Lavoe (Septeber 13, 1945 - June 29, 1993) experienced trauma throughout his life that he shared on through his music and was vry publicly known to the community; including the accidental death of his 17-year old son. He was relatable and powerful with his voice and lyrics through Salsa music. He is one of the most innovative singers in Salsa history and a Founding member os the Fania All Stars. The King of Salsa Forever!

Their gifts, however, live on through those of us who appreciate their music and stories.
